“The IVEX Dam (Chagrin River, northeastern Ohio) failed catastrophically on 13 August 1994, releasing 38,000 [m.sup.3] (about 10 million gallons) of impounded water and sediment. This event was triggered by a 70-year rainfall event (13.54 cm of rainfall within 24-hours), resulting in flows 1.9 m above the top of the spillway and impinging on the top of the dam. U.S. Dividend Watch List: December 14, 2018
The market continues to struggle to find its footing and fell further this week. The S&P 500 broke through the crucial support at 2,650 and closed the week at 2,599. At this rate, we may see a Dow Theory bear market confirmation if the Dow break below 23,500 level.
Our watch list expanded tremendously through this correction. The best approach, one which we will follow, is to watch this market unfold. Utilize the watch list to identify potential long investments that you could see yourself holding through a bear market or at least 3-5 years out. Be patient and choose your entry point wisely. Robinhood Dangles the Lure
On Friday December 14, 2018, it was announced that Robinhood, a registered broker/dealer, would offer high yield accounts to customers, but then later retracted such claims after the regulator (SIPC) said they had no idea such a product was being considered and the funds wouldn’t be insured.
Things can’t be good for the stock market in general if the most competitive way to draw in new customers isn’t with the prospect of market risk and potential gains but with “security” and savings, at a broker.

Dow’s theory on Past Performance
Change is the only constant, therefore present value is not future value

Who was Charles H. Dow?
“Charles Henry Dow was an American journalist who co-founded Dow Jones & Company with Edward Jones and Charles Bergstresser. Dow also founded The Wall Street Journal, which has become one of the most respected financial publications in the world. He also invented the Dow Jones Industrial Average as part of his research into market movements. He developed a series of principles for understanding and analyzing market behavior which later became known as Dow theory, the groundwork for technical analysis (source: Wikipedia.org).”

Bitcoin: December 2018
After twelve months, the extent of the euphoria and devastation has been wrought on the price of Bitcoin. Out of necessity, it is necessary to review what has happened since our January 17, 2018 posting (when Bitcoin was at $11,141) on the topic as this was the last assessment that was the most accurate, so far. In that posting, we said the following:
“Anyone willing to participate in Bitcoin should be willing to accept that the price could easily decline –70%, as has been the average of all previous Bitcoin busts (found here). Anyone who participates in anything other than Bitcoin should expect a minimum –90% to –99% decline if, at the same time, Bitcoin declines –70% or more.
“We see the current decline consistent with all prior crashes in Bitcoin and therefore see no reason to panic if you are out already. Alternatively, if you are currently in Bitcoins, you should be willing to accept that the price routinely declines to the levels mentioned above.”
